Need To Have "The Talk" With Your Parents About In Home Care?

Here are some tips to get the ball rolling:

  • Realize that discussions about end-of-life decisions can be very uncomfortable, unpleasant, and difficult for both parties to think about.
  • Not everything has to get hammered out in one conversation!
  • When to start the discussion should depend on many factors. Take everything into consideration including recent diagnoses, cognitive ability, and the individual circumstances of family members.
  • Expect that family dynamics - whatever they are - will be magnified.
  • Look for outside help when it is needed. Part time In Home Care can be a wonderful supplement to "the village approach" to geriatric or special needs care.

Searching For Care? Finding The Right Solution Is All About Overcoming The Three Biggest Hurdles You're Likely To Face

While everyone's situation is unique, cost, quality, and consistency tend to be the most common hurdles for a family looking for help with a loved one. Here's some advice on handling the big three:

  1. Cost: While some seniors have purchased long term care insurance, geriatric care is typically an out-of-pocket expense. In Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, the cost for in home care averages $23.00 per hour. Leveraging your family support structure by setting up a schedule that family members will stick to and utilizing In Home Care as a supplement is a great way to assure your parent is safe and cared for in your absence while saving money at the same time. Read more about costs here
  2. Quality: At Pennsylvania Agency of Nurses, caregivers are personally selected to meet the individual personality and care needs of your loved one. Read about our matching process here
  3. Consistency/Reliability: As the only Nurse-owned and Nurse-operated In Home Care company in the Philadelphia area we recognize that the reliability and consistency of a caregiver is the true proof of quality in an Agency. Hear from our clients on their experience here
